Day 01 of 07Arrival at Habarana & First Safari Drive
Your private chauffeur collects you from the airport and drives north through Sri Lanka's interior heartland to the small jungle town of Habarana — the gateway to the Elephant Corridor. Check into your luxury eco-lodge: a collection of private cabanas and suites built on stilts above a tank bund, with wild peacocks and langur monkeys as resident garden guests. After lunch, an afternoon safari drive into Minneriya provides your first encounter with elephant herds grazing at the water's edge.
Day 02 of 07The Great Elephant Gathering — Full Day Safari
This is the day you came for. Set out at dawn with your certified wildlife naturalist for an extended full-day safari into the Minneriya Tank — Sri Lanka's most spectacular wildlife theatre. Between July and October, as the water level recedes, fresh grass carpets the mudflats attracting hundreds of elephants in a single convergence. Watch matriarchal herds lead their calves to the water, bachelor bulls sparring on the plain, and the astonishing spectacle of 200–300 elephants gathered in one panorama. Afternoon break at camp before a dusk return drive.
Day 03 of 07Kaudulla Safari & Ancient Reservoir Boat Cruise
Explore Kaudulla National Park — Minneriya's sister park in the elephant corridor — for a morning drive through different habitat types including dense scrub jungle, mixed forest and seasonal grasslands. Wildlife encounters include leopard, sloth bear, sambar deer, water buffalo and over 160 bird species. In the afternoon, board a traditional flat-bottomed boat on the ancient Minneriya reservoir for a magical sunset cruise as elephants gather at the shore and painted storks wade in the shallows.
Day 04 of 07Ayurvedic Morning & Departure South
Begin your final morning with a deeply restorative traditional Ayurvedic herbal oil treatment — a one-hour synchronized two-therapist Abhyanga body treatment using herb-infused warm oils, followed by a herbal steam chamber session. After a leisurely breakfast overlooking the jungle gardens, your private chauffeur drives you south on a comfortable expressway transfer to Colombo or the international airport, carrying memories of the world's most spectacular elephant gathering.
